I’m the owner and manager of Rivertown Yoga. I have been teaching exercise classes for 35 years and physical fitness such as aerobics, running and weight lifting, but due to injuries over a period of time I found myself unable to do the things I loved. After shoulder injuries and surgery, I turned to yoga to enhance my recovery. I found a new passion that I was able to do without any impact. My desire to learn more about yoga brought me to the mat where I have found my passion and my life’s work to help others. My yoga teacher taught me that, “no matter what your injuries, ability or age, yoga is for every body.” Yoga has taught me to look at life differently and to accept changes more easily. Yoga has given me a unique perspective into teaching other with injuries, and the ability to teach the benefits if yoga. I would love for everyone to come and see what Rivertown Yoga has to offer.
I started yoga almost 20 years ago to relieve an injury. I instantly felt relief and fell deeply in love the first class. I grew very quickly in my practice because I was thirsty to learn more. I was driving 45 miles twice a week to practice with my new friends, my yoga family. As I continued to grow, I opened my own yoga studio, the Warrior Room, and became a yoga leader in my hometown. Things were perfect; then, life happened, and I took a break from teaching. After a while, I began teaching again at Conway Recreation Center and Studio610 in Marion, SC My yoga practice has taken me to several locations, and over the years, I had the opportunity to touch many lives. Today, I am excited for 2019 and to have the opportunity to teach at Rivertown Yoga Studio. Yoga is a wonderful thing, but my journey continues, and I love this journey.
I have been practicing yoga since 2008. Initially, I thought yoga was another form of physical exercise. Over time, I realized that regular yoga practice helped me heal physically, spiritually and emotionally following my divorce. I also regularly practice meditation and energy work called Reiki, a Japanese form of energy healing. I became a Certified Reiki Master in 2008. I also completed multiple meditation courses through the “Awakening Your Light Body” series, Transcendental Meditation and other forms of guided meditation. I will complete my 200 hr. Yoga Teacher Training in the Spring 2019. I hope you will join us on the mat.
I was introduced to Yoga as a preteen, attending a class with my mother at the local Wellness center. It was an injury later in college that lead me back to yoga. The doctor told me that surgery was the only option, which jump started my self-healing research and journey. I signed up for two consecutive semesters of Yoga at the College of Charleston and began my consistent practice of yoga in the fall of 2012. I joined Mission Yoga after graduating in May 2013. It was through this studio that I found the opportunity to teach yoga to children. This is where the seed of my love for sharing yoga was planted. I started my 200-hr. yoga Teacher Training at Mission Yoga in the fall of 2015, and I’m in the process of completing my 300-hr. advanced Teacher Training at the Asheville Yoga Center. So far, no surgery, and I feel that due to my yoga practice I continue to become a healthier and happier version of myself. In my yoga classes it is my intention to guide individuals towards their own self healing journey by encouraging them to face challenges consciously and allow for deep relaxation so that we may lead more empowered and integrated lives.
